Lunar New Year

We recently had a special guest in the library! Mrs. Anne Pederson came to read and talk to kindergarten through second grade students about Lunar New Year and the Year of the Horse. She read “Cat & Rat: The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac” by Ed Young. She enhanced the reading of the story by bringing along animal characters to share as she read. She discussed the importance of the color red and of the “Lai See” (red envelopes) and the traditions that go along with them. After reading and talking with students, Mrs. Anne led students on a Lunar New Year Parade, including the Chinese Lion dance. Students carried signs, instruments, and lanterns as they paraded around the room. Students were so excited to learn from Mrs. Anne and continue to talk about her visit!
