Students engaged in a creative, inquiry-based writing project where they developed a hypothetical scenario in which they declared independence from America—while strategically maintaining the United States as an ally. Each of the three classes formed its own new nation and crafted an original Declaration of Independence outlining grievances, rights, and a vision for self-government. The newly imagined lands—Banaland, Warrior D.C., and Skyland—reflected each class’s unique identity and priorities. Students carefully balanced persuasive language, diplomatic tone, and historical structure, modeling their work after the original Declaration while demonstrating critical thinking, collaboration, and civic understanding.
