The Telephone Turns 150!

This week in reading, our class is exploring the topic of technology. By perfect coincidence, the telephone celebrated its 150th birthday this week, which made the perfect connection to what we are learning!

Students watched a short video about Alexander Graham Bell, learning about his inventions and his important work with the deaf community. We also discussed how new technology can change the way people communicate with each other.

In addition, students had the opportunity to examine primary sources related to the invention of the telephone. Looking at original photos and historical documents helped students think about what life was like when this new technology was first introduced and how it impacted people’s everyday lives.

It has been a great way to connect our reading topic with real history!
